Relax and Enjoy Before the Baby Comes!
Many women wonder whether or not they can travel while they are pregnant. In general, the answer is a resounding “Yes!” Cinergy Health explains: you should consult with your obstetrician first to get the go-ahead. In general, it is fine to travel until about 36 weeks, assuming you are having a healthy, uncomplicated pregnancy.
Here are a few tips to make sure that your trip will be pleasant:
- Stay hydrated – If you are flying, you may find yourself getting dehydrated with the dry air. Make sure to have water and to drink extra fluids. Avoid airplane ice which can have high levels of germs in it.
- Get moving – Make sure to stay on the move, whether you’re on a plane or in a car. Move every few hours and give yourself the room you need to be comfortable in your seat and to have access to a bathroom. You don’t want blood pooling in your legs, so walk around every 2-3 hours if you are on a plane.
- Compression travel socks – Some doctors recommend that women wear compression travel socks when traveling. They force blood to the leg’s deep veins, which reduces pooling of blood. At the same time, they help your body to maintain proper blood flow to the heart and lungs.
