If you’ve recently been to the emergency room or the hospital and are horrified when you receive a massive bill – don’t panic! It is actually possible to slash the bill. One woman, MaryJane Sullivan, managed to get her $10,000 emergency room bill reduced by $2,700. Here’s how she did it, and how you can too.
On February 12th, 2010 in Wallet Pop - Cinergy Health, a health insurance provider explains,“Most doctors will be happy to negotiate, if not by lowering the price, at least by arranging payment plan.” Another option is to hire a negotiator if you need to do so. Look for errors that the hospital has made as well. If you are having trouble reading the bill yourself, as your healthcare provider to help you, or torn to an advocacy group for help.
Such groups are composed of professionals with backgrounds in insurance and medical billing who can negotiate on your behalf. They either charge an hourly fee or a percentage of your total bill.
